THE PRACTICE OF STEWARDSHIP

צֶדֶק Tzedek · Justice

The Practice
of Stewardship

A bespoke virtual law and advisory practice: estate planning, Jewish legacy and philanthropy, long-term care and aging — for individuals, families, and founders in Oregon, Texas, and nationwide.

THE FANAROF STEWARDSHIP COMPASS

The Four Questions

Why is this practice different from all other practices?

Every engagement opens here. The four are interdependent rather than sequential — you will return to each of them as your life changes, and so will your plan.

NORTH · CLARITY
Where are we right now?
EAST · FORM
What needs to be built?
SOUTH · TENDING
What needs ongoing care?
WEST · HORIZON
What endures?
The Fanarof Stewardship Compass, a four-pointed figure marking clarity, form, tending and horizon.

PRACTICE AREAS

Six ways the work takes shape.

Every engagement begins the same way — with the four questions — and then follows where your situation actually leads.

Estate Planning
& Trust Design

Legal architecture for what passes on: who carries authority when you cannot, how decisions get made, and what holds its shape across generations.

Jewish Legacy
& Philanthropy

Tzedakah, donor advised funds, ethical wills, and end-of-life wishes, held inside the structure the Rambam set down in twelfth-century Fustat.

Long-Term Care
Appeals

A denial is not the end of the road. I build the clinical and documentary record and file the appeal, through external review when needed.

The Practice
of Aging

Caring for aging parents, long-term care planning, the paperwork that protects everyone, and the conversations families keep postponing.

WHO I WORK WITH

A bespoke practice,
held closely.

Stewardship is the ongoing care of what you hold, and the preparation of it for the hands it passes to next.

What you bring is rarely simple. A business and a blended family. A parent declining during a divorce and move. A sale closes while a child heads off to college in another state. Assets in three countries and a family conversation nobody has started.

I take a limited number of clients, and I stay with them through the years. My work is to bring clarity to that complexity, and to remain with you as it changes.

JUSTINE FANAROF, JD, MPH

A yogi-lawyer, kind of like
a ninja, only with more skills.

Born in Johannesburg, raised in Houston, practising since 2011. Twenty-eight years of yoga and contemplative practice, two decades in public health and a master’s degree in it, a lifetime of social justice work — and a decade of family caregiving that taught me what these documents are actually for.

I work with a limited number of clients, across a range of matters, through the years.

What clients say

It’s a rare person in this world to say, “It’s going to be hard but we need to have this conversation.” Justine does just this. In doing so she fosters a solution through action environment.

She has this way of dealing with very challenging issues and people, bringing communication, negotiation, deep listening, and presence together. She creates a path that lets me know I’m supported and everything is going to be ok.

And she’s just really ethical.
